Our Story
Taru Studios began with a simple conviction: that the objects we live with should carry meaning beyond their form.
In the sun-worn villages outside Jaipur, Rajasthan, artisan families have practiced bone inlay, mother-of-pearl work, and intricate wood carving for generations. These aren't just techniques—they're languages passed from father to son, uncle to nephew, through patient hours of sitting side-by-side at the workshop bench.
We met Mr. Basheer and his community of master craftspeople in 2024. What struck us wasn't just their extraordinary skill—it was their quiet pride in transformation.
"We begin with completely raw pieces," he told us, "and slowly, through shaping and carving, the design comes alive. That makes us feel connected to our ancestors who passed this skill down to us."
Yet these artisans faced an uncertain future. Fewer young people were entering the craft. Fair compensation was inconsistent. The world's appetite for mass production threatened to erase techniques that machines simply cannot replicate.
Taru Studios was founded to change that narrative.
Our Promise
To Artisans
Fair wages that honor decades of mastery. Consistent work that supports families and encourages the next generation to pick up their fathers' tools.
To You
Heirloom-quality pieces crafted by hand using methods unchanged for centuries. Objects that spark conversation, carry stories across oceans, and become treasured parts of your family's legacy.
To the Craft
Transparency about materials, processes, and the human hands behind every curve and inlay. Recognition that keeps heritage techniques alive in an age of automation.
The Meaning of Taru
Like the lotus that rises from murky waters to bloom with pristine beauty, Taru represents transformation and purposeful creation. Rooted in tradition, grounded in ethical practice, present in every mindful detail—this is craft with intention.
Every piece you bring home connects three worlds: the ancient artisan villages, your thoughtfully designed space, and a future where artisan heritage flourishes rather than fades.
Beyond Jaipur: A Growing Vision
Jaipur is our beginning, not our boundary. We launched in 2024 with partnerships in this renowned craft city, where centuries of bone inlay, mother-of-pearl work, and wood carving traditions continue to thrive.
As we grow, we'll extend this model to other craft-rich regions across India and beyond—always with the same commitments: fair wages, ethical materials, heritage preservation, and heirloom quality.
Each new partnership will be introduced with the same transparency and artisan-first approach that defines Taru Studios. Because preserving traditional craft isn't about one city or one technique—it's about honoring the human hands and generational wisdom that create beauty worth treasuring.
We'd be honored if you'd share a photograph of your Taru piece in its new home. Each image becomes part of our story.
